The Jacksonville Bulls opened their '86 season before a large crowd at the
Gator Bowl only to see the Stallions end up in the win column.
The Stallions ball-control offense was led by running back Joel Coles,
who piled up 123 rushing yards with one touchdown as the Stallions edged
Jacksonville by a score of 27-21.
Cliff Stoudt finished with 123 passing yards with one touchdwon to wide out
Joey Jones. Jones led Birmingham with five receptions for 73 yards.
The Bulls unveiled their new Run and Shoot offense with Alton Alexis amassing
163 receiving yards with one touchdown. Bulls quarterback Ed Luther finished
with 245 yards on 19-0f-37 efficiency with a pair of touchdowns and three
interceptions.
